Frequently
Asked questions

What time is check in?

Your Room is available for check in from 3pm on the first day of your stay.

What time is check out?

We get it — you don’t want to leave. However, so the Room can be turned over, you must check out by 11am. Late check outs incur a $30 fee per half hour.

What is the expectation at checkout?

Firstly, you’ve had the best time and already thinking about returning soon. Other than that, please leave the Room as you found it. Ensure that the firepit has been completely extinguished. Any used dishes have been washed. Turn off any heating or cooling — penalty fees apply if you leave this on. Take all rubbish with you. Please don’t use the Partners or neighbour’s bins. Securely close all the doors and windows. Pack all your personal belongings and make sure you don’t leave any personal effects behind. And finally, return the Room key to the master lock box.

Can you request a late check out?

We love a sleep-in King or Queen. Depending on availability, there may be an option to pre-pay a late check out when you make your booking.

How do you check in?

Guest arrival instructions are emailed to you as your stay approaches. You will be instructed as to how to access the hidden key for your room then.

If you are having issues finding the key or accessing your room, please call the DSTNTN team on 0400 847 152.

What’s included in your Room?

Lots. There is a fully equipped kitchen including all your pots and pans for cooking, utensils, crockery and cutlery, wine glasses (very important), kettle and teapot. The works. There is also an electric stove top cooking and a mini bar for drinking essentials. Each DSTNTN Room also comes with the basic kitchen consumables like coffee and tea, olive oil, salt and pepper, sugar, foil, paper towel, and the cleaning up necessities. There is also a Bluetooth speaker for the tunes to get you in the mood and a projector hooked up with 30 movie classics to ignite the nostalgia.

When it comes to bed, sleep soundly on a queen sized DrRest mattress with adjustable pillows and the cloud-like Bonny doona.

All Rooms have an outdoor BBQ and suitable cooking utensils.

Fire pits are also located outside your Room. Firewood can be pre-purchased for your stay. Please ensure you always fully extinguish the fire prior to leaving and all regional fire bans are adhered to.

Is there drinking water?

Absolutely. The water in your Room is double-filtered and safe for drinking.

Do you need to bring food?

One of the great things about a DSTNTN Room is that you aren’t located so off-grid that it is like an episode of Alone. You will be close enough to restaurants and shops that if you need anything, you can drive there. However, for those who want to check in and check out of the hustle and bustle, we suggest packing enough food for your duration of your stay that can fit in the small fridge located in your Room. You can also bring an esky for additional storage if needed. Don’t forget milk for your tea and coffee.

What’s a Cinderella Toilet?

It’s a waterless incineration toilet. Incinerating toilets are a total waste solution, which means they get rid of all the waste. Before you use the toilet, you MUST line the bowl with the provided paper liner. Don’t forget — or we’ll all be in the shit.

What should you pack?

Comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for the outdoors and the weather conditions during your stay. For those staying in the summer, bring your sunscreen — we don’t want sunburn ruining your stay.

What should you leave at home?

Appliances like heaters, hairdryers, toasters, microwaves, or anything that drains solar power of your Room. These can disrupt essential room functions like the fridge, split system, and toilet — and we don’t want that.

Is there Wi-Fi?

DSTNTN Rooms don’t have Wi-Fi — we like the idea of switching off. If you’re on Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone mobile network, you should have mobile reception.

Is there a first aid kit?

There is a first aid kit and safety gear including a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket located under the kitchen bench. Any personal essentials and medications should be brought by the guest.

If you require a CPAP machine — please contact us prior to your stay.

Off-grid and solar powered?

DSTNTN Rooms run entirely on solar power, which recharges only with sunlight. Avoid using personal appliances that deplete the battery quickly.

Are additional items available for pre-order?

Yes. Firewood for the outdoor firepit, late check out, and rubbish removal (reasonable amounts only from your stay) can all be pre-ordered when you book.

If you would like to do this, and didn’t at booking, please contact us at prior to your stay.

What is the cancellation policy?

Things happen — we understand. You can read the DSTNTN cancellation policy in the Terms + Conditions on our website.

We do not provide refunds for no-shows or unused nights.

If you do need to cancel or change your booking, please contact the team at [email protected] prior to your check in date.
